An intrepid Highlands woman now living in South America will scale a volcano in honour of the charity her mum works for.

Walkers, runners, cyclists and golfers are being encouraged by the Marie Curie end of life charity to don their signature tartan and sign up for this year’s virtual Kiltwalk weekend taking place from September 11-13.

Charlie Carson, from Inverness, lives in Ecuador and has vowed to scale the 15,700ft Volcano Corazon in the Andes to do her bit from afar.

Miss Carson is undertaking the challenge with her friend Mira Ahlert from Germany in the hopes of raising £400.

Her fundraising appeal has so far generated more than £360 in donations.

Her mum Vonnie Stevenson, Marie Curie community fundraiser for Highlands and Moray, said: “My own daughter Charlie, who is living and working in Ecuador at the moment, is even taking part by climbing Volcano Corazon in the Andes to help raise funds.

“It really doesn’t matter where you live, just set your challenge, don some tartan and share your fundraising page with friends and family. Every little really does help.

“More than ever, this crisis has brought out the generosity of people and while we can’t do Kiltwalk all together, we hope people will join thousands of others across Scotland, and indeed the world virtually, and raise much-needed funds.”

People can sign up at mariecurie.org.uk/kiltwalk and pledge their support for the cause.
