The first pupils are due to arrive this month at a £15million new Caithness school after it reached “practical completion”.
Noss Primary in Wick will replace the existing North and Hillhead schools in the town.
Construction of the new school, which has a floor space of nearly 50,000sq ft, has been ongoing since late 2014 and was delivered by main contractor Morrison Construction.
Pupils will make the move a week on Wednesday and work will now shift to demolishing the existing school and constructing a mixed-used sports pitch and a grass playing field.
The school itself has 14 classrooms, two nursery rooms, a library, learning support rooms, a dining area and a medical room.
Highland Council’s education chairman Councillor Drew Millar said: “Completing a new school is a major achievement so I would like to thank everyone involved for the tremendous work they have done to ensure everything is in place to welcome pupils and staff to their new school on Wednesday, April 13.
“Noss Primary is going to be very much the heart of the local community and I’m delighted that as well as an excellent environment for the young people to learn in, everyone will be able to use and enjoy the first-rate community facilities.
“With the completion of a new school and the Wick campus project well underway now is a very exciting time for education in Caithness and shows a significant investment by the council into the educational needs and aspirations of young people and for the skilled and dedicated staff and parents that support them.”
The project was delivered by Aberdeen-based partership hub North Scotland on behalf of the council.
