The north and north-east of Scotland basked in some long overdue sunshine yesterday, with more to come over the next couple of days.
The north enjoyed its warmest day of the year so far, while Skye enjoyed its hottest day in May since records began.
Alex Burkill, a forecaster for the Met Office, said yesterday: “There are some pretty warm temperatures across the north of Scotland. It is the warmest day of the year so far.
“It was the isle of Skye’s warmest May day on record, their previous one was 24.5C and today they have reached 25.4C.”
People in Achnagart enjoyed similar temperatures of 25C, while in Kinlochewe it was 24.8C and Altnaharra is 23C.
It was slightly cooler in the north-east, with Fyvie Castle recording temperatures of 18.4C and Aberdeen Airport 15.2C.
Temperatures will drop slightly little bit as the week goes on, but will remain warm until the weekend when there will be a considerable drop.
Mr Burkill said it would stay nice overnight and there would be plenty of sunshine and fine weather today, although the temperatures are expected to drop by a degree or so.
Looking to the rest of the week, Mr Burkhill said: “Wednesday again should see plenty of sunshine but perhaps a bit colder than Tuesday. Temperatures should be around 19-20CC in the west and perhaps a few degrees colder further east.
“Thursday should be mostly sunny turning cold from the east later. Again temperatures will be 19C maybe 20C in the west.
“On Friday, it will turn gradually colder with the chance of a little bit of light rain. The weather will be fine on Friday but the best temperatures we can expect are 13C-14C. Some places will struggle to get in to double figures.
“It should be widely fine weather at the weekend as there will be some sunshine and it will feel pleasant. But not as hot as it has been at the start of the week.”
