Closures to several key roads in Inverness began to impact on drivers over the weekend.
On Saturday, access to Harbour Road was blocked off at the south end for the start of work on the Millburn level crossing.
The closure, which will last until 6am tomorrow, is to enable essential maintenance to be carried out on the crossing by Network Rail.
The move is expected to cause more vehicles than usual to travel through the city centre when the working week gets under way from this morning.
And last night, the Aberdeen-bound A96 junction at the Raigmore Interchange shut overnight.
The busy junction will be closed from 8pm to 6am the same times for the next three nights as well, with drivers facing a three-mile diversion via the B9006 Culloden Road and Tower Road, before rejoining the A96 at Smithton Roundabout
The £35,000 upgrade work involves laying high-friction surfacing to improve grip on the eastbound junction, extending to a point beyond the railway bridge.
It will also include the installation of signs and marker posts to highlight the bend on approach to this exit.
Andy Thompson, Bear Scotland’s north-east representative, said: “Road safety is a top priority for both Bear Scotland and Transport Scotland and this scheme, in upgrading the surfacing at this location along with the improvements to signage, is part of our commitment to that.
“The works are being carried out overnight to minimise delays.”
Delays are also expected at Leachkin Road in the Highland capital from today.
Resurfacing work, which is being carried out by Highland Council, is due to take between three and five days to complete.
The section of road to be resurfaced starts at its junction with Lomond Way and extends for about half-a-mile to its junction with the access to “Croft No 9”.
Highland Council said: “The works will be programmed to avoid impacting upon peak-time traffic flows, and traffic will be convoyed through the works area.
“Motorists are advised to expect some delays which the council hopes to keep to a minimum.”
