Free parking in Elgin town centre will return at the weekend for the festive period.
Charges will be dropped in the St Giles multi-storey car park every day after 3pm from Saturday in an attempt to increase footfall for traders.
It marks the fourth year that Moray Council has run the Free After Three promotion during the busiest shopping period of the year.
It is estimated that dropping the charges for the four weeks costs the authority about £2,500 in lost income.
Graham Leadbitter, chairman of Moray Council’s economic development committee, said: “There is a strong feeling from shop owners and staff that in previous years Free After Three has been a real success – they have seen a noticeably increased footfall after 3pm in many stores.
“I’m pleased that we’re able to promote another campaign and look forward to seeing Elgin’s shop’s bustling.”
Moray Council’s economic development committee unanimously backed the proposals this week.
However, Elgin City South councillor John Divers asked for the promotion to be introduced ahead of the Christmas lights switch on in future years.
