A group of Moray entrepreneurs have vowed to raise thousands of pounds to help feed struggling families.
The Moray Business Women Club (MBWC) will donate cash raised through various fundraisers across 2017 to the Elgin-based Moray Food Bank.
MBWC pledged to support the organisation after learning it helped feed more than 1,800 people during 2015-16 – almost a third of which were children.
The business group dedicated itself last year to helping Moray Women’s Aid and ultimately donated £7,000 to the domestic abuse charity.
They amassed more than half of that amount during a 10th anniversary ball in Elgin, and the remainder through raffles and collections at monthly meetings.
Members insist they are determined to raise a similar sum for the Moray Foodbank, and to help make more people aware of the charity.
The bank’s project manager, Mairi McCallum, responded that being selected as the club’s charity of choice had made for a “great start to the year”.
Moray Women’s Aid board member, Caroline Overton, yesterday expressed her gratitude for the fundraising which the women undertook on behalf of the organisation in 2016.
She added: “There are no words to express the magnitude of our thanks to Moray Business Women for the phenomenal amount of money they have raised for us.
“It means we will be able to support more women, children and young people with experience of domestic abuse than ever before.”
MBWC held an event at Johnstons of Elgin where four charities made pitches to members to become their beneficiary this year.
Group president, Marie Smith, said the eventual vote was “extremely close”.
