GALLERY: Aberdeen in December through the decades featuring Christmas tree sales, carol concerts and an air raid shelter inspection

A wise man once sang “it’s the most wonderful time of the year” – and with all the colourful lights displays, stage shows and communities coming together to celebrate it’s easy to understand his point.

The Evening Express Christmas Carol Concert is now in its 51st year – tickets are still available for the 2022 edition here – and those attending are usually in fine voice as you can see below.

Festivities in December bring communities closer together with pantomime productions and primary school shows big occasions in the calendar.

The generosity of Aberdonians is clear for all to see as fundraising efforts for worthy causes received their big cheques.

We also see a poignant image from World War Two of councillors inspecting the air raid shelter at this time of year in 1940.
