Aberdeenshire CC has sent a get-well message to their 2018 professional after he was injured by a train in Sri Lanka.
Akshu Fernando, who spent the summer playing for the Eastern Premier club at Mannofield in Aberdeen, is in intensive care after the incident in his homeland yesterday morning.
And Shire club officials have sent him a message and relayed it on social media.
It stated: “Our thoughts are with our 2018 overseas professional, Akshu Fernando, who is currently in a stable condition in ICU [intensive care unit] of a hospital back in Sri Lanka after being hit by a train this morning.
“Let’s all send our good wishes and goodwill his way for a speedy recovery.”
The 28-year-old all-rounder worked hard, both on and off the pitch during his stay in Aberdeen and proved a pivotal figure in the team’s league action.
He was also popular with the many youngsters he helped coach.
One Shire member said last night: We were shocked when we heard this had happened. He really is a lovely guy and we are hoping it is nothing too serious.”
