Elgin City boss Weir keen to strengthen in January window

Elgin City manager Jim Weir is keen to strengthen his Black and Whites squad during the January transfer window.

Attacker Kyle Macleod is returning to parent club Ross County, while defender Keiran Stewart and midfielder Scott Smith will both miss today’s home game against leaders Forfar Athletic through ankle injuries, along with suspended midfielder Thomas Reilly.

Although City are third in the table, Weir wants to increase the depth of his squad, and he said: “We will add where we need to add. Sometimes our geography goes against us, sometimes we can lose out on players to teams in the central belt, although it evens itself out with the players we have who are based in the north.”

Weir says the Black and Whites cannot afford to lose today’s match against the Loons if they are to keep their title aspirations alive, with the Borough Briggs men 11 points behind their opponents.

Weir added: “If we were to lose the game and fall 14 points behind it would be a formidable amount to try to turn around.

“It’s a big game and it’s important we approach it the right way.

“We will try to get the three points, but we know we’re up against a side that’s high in confidence, in high spirits and full of experience with an excellent work-rate.

“It’s going to be a difficult game for us.”
