Blue Toon midfielder working overtime on injury to ensure he is fit for Stranraer trip

Peterhead's Steven Noble clears from Jordan Austin.

Midfielder Steven Noble will be pulling out all the stops to ensure he is fit for Peterhead’s trip to Stranraer today.

The Blue Toon defender had to come off with a calf strain in his side’s draw against Albion Rovers last Saturday and missed training on Wednesday but Noble, who is a physio, is working overtime on his injury to make the game.

He said: “The club physio told me not to train at Forfar on Wednesday and if someone came to me presenting the same injury my advice would have been same. I’ll be treating myself in the hope I can make it. It is responding to treatment and I’m optimistic.

“This is a huge game for us and that’s why I’m not ruling myself out just yet.”

Noble’s determination to be involved comes as the race for promotion and relegation heats up in League 1.

Four points separate the Blue Toon and bottom club Stenhousemuir, but they are also just five points behind Queen’s Park who occupy the final play-off berth in fourth place.

Noble knows Stranraer, who are ahead of Stenny on goal difference, will also fancy their chances of making a late push for the play-offs despite their lowly position.

“I know how tough Stair Park is to go to as I used to play for them. They are similar to us in that they expect to be challenging for promotion.

“Their team on paper is a strong one and I’m sure having a new manager in there in Stephen Farrell will have given them a lift.

“But we feel we can make the play-offs. It’s been a really strange season and we’ve struggled at times but we’re only seven points off second place and we believe we can still get up there.

“That was our aim at the start of the season and it hasn’t changed. League 1 has been a ridiculous division this season and everyone is waiting for one team to fall away and be cut adrift at the bottom, but it’s not happened yet.

“Livingston have run away with it and it’s only a matter of time before they are crowned champions, but for the rest of us it’s still all to play for and we know if we can put a run of three or four wins together it will totally transform our season.”
