Celtic have identified former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers as the man they want to replace Ronny Deila and have opened talks with the Northern Irishman.
Rodgers, who left Liverpool in October, 2015, is believed to be keen on a return to management this summer and has spoken with Parkhead bosses over a move to the Premiership champions.
When asked about the possibility of replacing Ronny Deila last month, Rodgers refused to rule it out, saying Celtic are a “great club”.
Rodgers’ management career started at Watford in 2008 before a brief spell with Reading. His reputation soared when he took over at Swansea, where he guided the Welsh side to the Premier League.
The Northern Irishman took over at Liverpool in 2012 and narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League with the Reds when he was beaten to the 2013/14 title by Manchester City on the last day of the season.
Former Watford, Cardiff and Wigan boss Malky Mackay, who spent five years as a player at Celtic during the 1990s, is also believed to have held talks with the Celtic hierarchy over the vacant position but Rodgers is the board’s number one target.
Deila announced earlier this month he was standing down after two seasons at Parkhead despite leading the Hoops to their fifth successive title.
The Celtic board are keen to appoint a successor to Deila before the end of the month.
