Top of 9,200gn achieved at Dark Diamonds Suffolk sale

Scottish breeders were out in force at the Dark Diamonds Suffolk Sale in Carlisle.

A top price of 9,200gn was paid on the day by Stewart Craft from Little Balquhomire, Leslie, Fife.

He was bidding for a January-2016 born gimmer from Gary Beacom’s Lakeview flock at Fivemiletown, Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.

An ET daughter of Rhaedr Rolex, she is out of a ewe by Solwaybank Major which sold for 9,000gn at the Dark Diamonds sale in 2015.

Meanwhile, father and son duo George and Melvin Stuart, of Milltown of Birness, Ellon, sold to a top of 3,400gn for an entry from their Birness flock.

Their sale topper was a January-2016 born daughter of Ballynacannon Commander, out of a ewe by Meikleson Square Up.

She sold in-lamb to the 9,500gn Limestone Legacy to Ronan McLaughlin, Malin Stables, Inishowne, Co. Donegal, Ireland.

Next best for Birness at 2,600gn was a January-2016 born daughter of Redbrae Rambo, out of a ewe by Rhaedr Giggsy. She sold in-lamb to the 3,800gn Crewelands Megastar to C.G. Paterson, Cranna Bridge, Aberchirder, Huntly.

Inverurie-based breeder Graham Christie, who runs the Balquhain flock at Newton of Balquhain, sold to a top of 2,800gn.

His top priced lot was a January-2016 born daughter of the 10,000gn Deveronside Doodlebug, out of a dam by Glenhead Golden Phoenix. She sold in-lamb to the 6,000gn Lakeview Under The Radar to Mark Priestley, 22 Drumgooland Road, Downpatrick, Co. Down, Northern Ireland.

Next best for Balquhain at 1,200gn was another January-2016 born Deveronside Doodlebug daughter, out of a ewe by Strathisla Stifler. She sold in-lamb to the same sire to B.C. Smith, Stanworth Farm, Blackburn, Lancashire.

Veteran breeder Jimmy Douglas, who runs the Cairness flock at Woodhead of Cairness near Fraserburgh, achieved a top price of 1,250gn.

His sale topper was a February-2016 born daughter of Cloontagh Chieftain, out of a 6,000gn ewe by Rhaeadr Rossi. She sold in-lamb to the 15,000gn Cairness Sir William to H.C. Dowson, Castle House Farm, Middlesborough. Mr Douglas also achieved 900gn selling a December-2015 born daughter of Conchar Crusader to Pat and Rory Machray, Bilboa, Daviot, Inverurie.

Lastly, Fraserburgh breeder John Gibb, who runs the Cairnton flock near Techmuiry, sold to a top of 1,600gn.

His sale topper was a January-2016 born ET daughter of Whitestone Royal Star, out of a ewe by Solwaybank Pound Stretcher. She sold in-lamb to the 5,000gn Rhaeadr High Roller to Andrew Moses, Aldergrove, Crumlin, Northern Ireland.
