North-east firm Bancon Group said yesterday its construction arm had recruited two new directors to help drive growth, including through the delivery of new contracts worth a total of £12million.

The new work includes major projects for a car dealership and the refurbishment of offices in Westhill for oil firm Total Exploration and Production UK.

Mark Dunlop, previously commercial manager for the Aberdeen Sports Village construction project, is the division’s new commercial director.

He brings 28 years’ experience in the construction industry, having worked across civil engineering, housing, retail, commercial and hotel projects.

His new role includes overseeing commercial aspects of Bancon Construction projects, making sure clients’ expectations are met.

The division’s new construction director, Colin Mercer, also has a wide range of building experience spanning civil engineering, waste water treatment plants, housing, retail, commercial and hotel work.

Mr Mercer was previously construction manager in a £22million abattoir project for Morrisons.

He also project managed work on FirstGroup’s global headquarters in Aberdeen.

Bancon Construction managing director Gavin Currie said: “We are pleased to welcome Mark and Colin to the operational team.

“Between them they have many years of experience in the construction industry and have worked on a number of high-profile and landmark projects.

“Their knowledge and expertise will help us to ensure we continue to deliver first-class projects for our clients.”

Mr Currie said the new work underlined Bancon’s ability to manage diverse projects across different sectors cost-effectively,

“Our newly strengthened team and these valued new contracts pave the way for continued growth in our construction business,” he added.

Bancon Construction also has also introduced a new graduate programme to develop talent in a structured way through on-the-job mentoring and coaching to accelerate learning.

The division, based at Burnett House in Banchory, currently has three graduates in its surveying and construction teams.
