Crofters have until the end of the month to complete and return their census forms.
The Crofting Commission has issued a reminder to all crofters that completion of the Crofting Census by the March 31 deadline is a legal obligation.
Failure to complete and return census forms without reasonable cause or to knowingly provide false information is an offence under the Crofting Reform (Scotland) Act 2010. Both offence could result in fines for non-compliance.
Crofting Commission chief executive, Bill Barron, said the agency had already received more than 11,000 completed forms, which represents a 54% return rate.
He said: “The returns allow us to build a strong evidence base for the value of crofting and ensure that the information held on our Register of Crofts is as accurate as possible.
“The census also helps to identify if a crofter is not fulfilling their duties and the commission can work with those crofters, providing guidance and assistance to help them solve the situation.”
He said forms were quick and easy to complete and anybody requiring guidance on how to complete the form should contact the commission.
