The wait is finally over for fans of restaurant brand Six by Nico as the opening date for its Aberdeen venue has been announced.
Customers will be able to experience the restaurant’s popular six-course tasting menu concept from Thursday April 28, with bookings opening today.
Owned by Scottish restaurateur, Nico Simeone, the venue on Union Street at the former Topolabamba site, will be the tenth Six by Nico, joining others in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Manchester and Dublin.
It is the businessman’s first venture in Scotland outside of the Central Belt.
What menu will Six by Nico launch with?
The menu for the venue has been a well kept secret for the past few weeks, however we have been exclusively told it is a play on the company’s popular ‘The Chippie’ menu that Aberdonians will be able to tuck into first.
Aptly renamed ‘The Chipper’ to pay homage to the north-east, the menu is dedicated to one of Scotland’s most loved takeaways – fish and chip shops.
It will kick-start a series of six-course tasting menus that will change every six weeks.
The theme was also inspired by chef Nico Simeone’s Scots-Italian family heritage and is an ode to a long line of chip shop entrepreneurs.
A trip to the local chipper is a ritual shared by many north-east communities, and that is what the inaugural menu aims to accomplish.
What are the six dishes?
Customers will be digging into gastronomic delights including chips and cheese, scampi, steak pie, fish supper, smoked sausage and deep-fried Mars bar which have been reimagined by the Six by Nico team.
The Chipper menu will be available from Thursday April 28 until Sunday June 5.
How much is the tasting menu?
While Six by Nico will open its doors on a Thursday, from the following week the venue will be open from 4.30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from noon until late Friday to Sunday.
The menu is priced at £37 per person and diners also have the option to add a wine pairing for an additional £27.
Andy Temple, chief creative officer at Six by Nico is excited about the launch
He said: “Most people are familiar with the tastes and smells of their neighbourhood chip shop, and we wanted to re-invent the chipper menu to create a playful food experience that Aberdonians would recognise and be amazed by.
“We’re thrilled to be opening in Granite City, and delighted to be incorporating the best of local produce into everything we do. We are excited to bring a completely new offering and dining experience to the city.”
The Six by Nico concept was born in Glasgow in 2017 from a passion for experimenting with new ingredients and developing and creating unique dishes.
Its Aberdeen restaurant will have an open kitchen with a modern design that is visible to all, as well as a contemporary bar for pre and post-dinner drinks.
The restaurant is currently being renovated, however it will boast eye-catching interiors with a minimal design, starkly contrasted by grand fixtures and fittings with atmospheric mood lighting.
