With views across open countryside and original period features, Inverawe is a picture-perfect cottage with a deceptively spacious interior.
It has been lavished with love by the McGillivray family and now comes complete with stunning modern touches after sympathetic renovations.
It holds plenty of special memories as it is the only home three-year-old Isabella and Ida, one, have known.
Jillian and her husband Matthew are now planning to relocate due to Matthew’s job in the oil industry, and hope another family can make the very most of Inverawe.
From the moment you walk through the door it is clear Inverawe has its very own essence – a mixture of carefully chosen interior design and a comforting sense of history.
Gillian, who is a sports massage therapist, believes the house dates back to the early 19th century.
“We fell in love with Inverawe, I was pregnant with Ida at the time so it has been our very first family home,” said Gillian.
“We’ve decorated every single room, it was a massive challenge and then we had Isabella.
“We actually really enjoyed it though and the girls adore the house.”
The heart of the home is the stunning dining kitchen area which would not look out of place on the pages of a magazine.
It boasts an exposed granite feature wall and a range of solid wood shaker style cabinets in a light grey finish, complemented by Silestone work surfaces.
There’s also a central island incorporating an induction hob, wine fridge and informal dining space.
“We knew Inverawe had so much potential, and re-designing the kitchen really paid off,” said Gillian.
“Our favourite room is the conservatory, this is where we spend the most time together as a family.”
It’s worth noting that this isn’t any old conservatory, however.
Glazed on three sides with an exposed granite feature wall, this space can accommodate both lounge and dining furniture.
The slate floor tiling benefits from under-floor heating and there are lovely views of the rear garden.
“We spend so much time in here with the girls and it’s perfect at Christmas, we decorate the entire house,” said Gillian.
Head back through to the other side of the house where there are yet more options to unwind.
The lounge offers double height skirting boards, a high ceiling with picture rails, ornate frieze and intricate plaster cornicing.
The period look is completed by an exposed granite ingleneuk fireplace with cast iron stove and a deep front facing bay window with wooden pilasters.

A double bedroom can be found downstairs, but is currently in use as a therapy room.
“I’ve been very lucky to have the option to work from home when I became a mum, and clients always love this room,” said Gillian.
“We restored the original flooring and we’ve kept all the features like the picture rails for example.
“Inverawe is completely unique but it has been easy to adapt as a modern family home.”
Completing the downstairs accommodation is a family bathroom which has recently been upgraded.
It boasts a roll-top bath with chrome claw feet and there is a further shower room – ideal for when you have family to stay.
An impressive carpeted staircase with carved wooden balustrade leads to all four upstairs bedrooms which boast beautiful sloping ceilings – and one room offers painted floor boards.
The charming bathroom has a compact bathtub tucked underneath the eaves.
“We’re very sad to leave because there’s character everywhere we look,” said Gillian.
“We love the high ceilings and pitch pine woodwork, there can only ever be one Inverawe.”
As if its interior charm wasn’t enough, Inverawe is surrounded by beautifully kept gardens.
The manicured lawns are surrounded by well stocked borders of established shrubs, perennials and climbers which ensure year-round colour. There are also fruit-bearing apple and plum trees, and tall mature specimens.
A large summer house provides the perfect al fresco dining spot and there are two further outhouses and a log store – as well as off-street parking.
Inverawe is only a short drive from Aberdeen city centre, yet sits in its very own rural oasis.
“So much has changed since we came here four years ago but we’re so glad we made the most of our time here,” said Gillian.
“Leaving will be difficult but we hope to pass it on to someone who will love Inverawe just as much.
