Voters heading home to Inverness faced disappointment after a East Coast train broke down at Dunkeld.
The train company is blaming a damaged windscreen for the delay to the Glasgow-Inverness service and says replacement buses have been requested.
However the disruption has angered voters who had hoped to reach the polling stations before they closed at 10pm.
Some are understood to have taken to taxis in the hope of reaching the Highland capital in time.
