The skies across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire will be illuminated by a series of pyrotechnic displays this weekend when the nation celebrates Bonfire Night.
Communities all across the north-east are hoping their special fireworks celebrations go off with the biggest bang.
Aberdeen’s event at the beach, which usually attracts more than 12,000 people annually, was cancelled last year due to high winds.
But with a reasonably clear weather forecast, it is hoped this year’s festivities on Sunday will once again dazzle residents of the Granite City from 7.30pm.
And families who aren’t able to make it down to the beach on the night, and even Aberdonians living abroad, will be able to enjoy the show live from Footdee-based company Seacroft Marine Consultants.
In Aberdeenshire, it was initially feared that Newtonhill’s fireworks display and barbecue at the Bettridge Centre would have to be called off, but thanks to a fast-tracked application for a public entertainment licence, the event will go ahead as planned from 7.30pm on Sunday.
This evening, Banchory’s celebration will kick off at 6pm in King George V Park, while a bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm in Thainstone near Inverurie before fireworks from 7pm, and rockets will be shot into the sky from Monaltrie Park in Ballater from 7pm.
And tomorrow, the Stonehaven and District Round Table organisation will host a display from 6pm at Mineralwell Park, Inverbervie residents will be able to enjoy fireworks and a bonfire from 6pm at the Lower Caravan Park, and the Alford Scouts have organised a Bonfire Night celebration at Grampian Transport Museum, with the gates opening at 6.30pm.
