A householder in Aberdeen has said residents in Bridge of Don have been forced to follow a detour since Thursday for road works that have not yet started.
Archie Robertson who lives on Lee Crescent says workers appeared on the first day and blocked off the entrance from Jesmond Street into his street and have not been seen since.
He says that while new tarmac on the road will be well received by residents, the detour, made worse due to heavy traffic past a school, is annoying when no one appears to have started on the site.
Mr Robertson said it was frustrating because he didn’t know who is carrying out the work, or what they are doing.
Access cut off
Mr Robertson said: “On Thursday we saw that workers had closed off the access from Jesmond Drive into Lee Crescent.
“The access was cut off from the main road. That means instead of turning left out of our street we have to turn right and go all along Lee Crescent North.
“There has been no sight of the workers or why they have closed off the entrance into the street. We have not seen them and we don’t know where they are.”
Mr Robertson said there had previously been road resurfacing in the area and he thought that might be what the workers were there to do.
He continued: “There are signs to tell people the road is closed. But it would have been far more sensible to wait until the workers were starting work or to put up traffic lights to allow people to come through.
“We would like to know why it was closed on Thursday and then there was no sign of anyone doing anything there. It seems to be a detour for no reason.
“The detour is past the school and it is always busy with traffic. We just want to know what is happening.”
An eyewitness said drivers appear to be ignoring the signs.
He said: “Cars are ignoring the no entry sign for the road closure and entering beside the road works anyway, as one lane is still open, and it’s effectively a one way, leaving Lee Crescent onto Jesmond Drive. ”
Who is doing the works?
On Aberdeen City Council’s roadworks page, it seems as though Scottish Water are carrying out the roadworks.
A statement on the page reads: “Aberdeen City Council has made the above-named order in terms of its powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984
From 9.15am on March 30, until 9.15am on April 4, Lee Crescent will be one-way from
the driveway at number 3 Lee Crescent to its junction with Jesmond Drive.
“The permitted direction of travel will be eastbound only.
“An alternative route is available via Jesmond Drive and Lee Crescent North.
“The measure is necessary to protect public safety during urgent works by Scottish Water.

A Scottish Water spokesman said: “Scottish Water was contacted by customers about a burst pipe on Lee Crescent, Bridge of Don.
“Our teams responded and carried out a repair however further works are required before the road can reopen.”
He added: “We would like to thank those affected for their patience during this essential work.”
