VIDEO and PICTURES: Snow hits the north and north-east of Scotland

The Met Office has warned winter weather could continue into the weekend.
The Met Office has warned winter weather could continue into the weekend.

Many people in the north and north-east woke up to a winter wonderland this morning after heavy snow in the region overnight.

The Met Office’s yellow warning for snow expires at 3pm so it would appear that the worst is over for now.

Higher temperatures have been forecast for the rest of the week but anyone who’s lived in Scotland for a decent period of time knows it would be extremely foolish to count out winter so early in the year.

Here’s a selection of some videos and pictures from the last day.

The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team has been kept very busy over the past week. The team posted this video from their search for a missing person who fell through a cornice on Beinn a Chaorainn.

The team have been out again today looking for a missing person who fell through a cornice yesterday afternoon on Beinn a Chaorainn. Once again very challenging conditions are limiting efforts to perform a thorough search of the fall zone. With further large amounts of snow forecast over the next few days these areas will just be too risky to search. We will resume as soon as the weather allows us to access the coire.

In the Granite City, the Aberdeen Cycle Cam posted on Twitter a snowy scene on a bike path and questioned why the local council will not grit it.

The Braemar Caravan Park could not hide their delight over the conditions when they posted about the snow.

BBC Scotland meanwhile uploaded a video to social media of the A9 near Daviot, where two lorries got stuck in the snow and caused some serious traffic congestion.

It was a picture postcard scene in Glenelg earlier today.

While it was a wilder scene down at Inverness Campus earlier.
