Dutch airline KLM has announced plans to increase the numbers of services flying from Aberdeen to Amsterdam during the summer.

From May, KLM will operate an additional daily flight to Amsterdam Schiphol, increasing the number of flights to Amsterdam to five a day. This will be effective during the months of May, June, September and October.

Aberdeen International Airport’s Managing Director Steve Szalay is delighted at the new plans: “We warmly welcome KLM’s decision to expand its presence here at the airport.

“This is a real shot in the arm for us as we enter an exciting period, as our Terminal Transformation project is on course for completion in the autumn.

“Amsterdam is a key destination for us for both business and leisure purposes, and we look forward to welcoming our passengers on to the additional flight later this year.”

An additional 20,000 seats are on sale, increasing capacity by around 10% on the route. The additional flight will be operated by an Embraer 190, carrying 100 passengers. The extra frequency offers passengers an improved schedule between Aberdeen and Schiphol Airport, one of the world’s great aviation hubs.

General Manager for Air France-KLM in the UK & Ireland, Benedicte Duval said: “We are delighted to announce a capacity increase of 20,000 seats for summer 2019, taking our KLM operation to five daily flights between Aberdeen and Amsterdam during a key travel period.

“The extra frequency will not only allow more local people take advantage of KLM’s worldwide network through Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, it will also provide more choice and convenience for inbound travel to Europe’s energy capital, boosting local business.”

Tickets are now on sale for the new flight which will operate on weekdays between early May to July and between September to late October.
