A motorist has been caught driving at 127mph on one of the north-east’s busiest roads.
The driver was pulled over after officers clocked him on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road between Blackburn and Inverurie, during a weekend crackdown on dangerous driving.
Officers also recorded two other men driving at speeds in excess of 100mph on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee, near Laurencekirk.
The three offenders were caught as part of the police’s ongoing Operation Cedar, which this weekend resulted in 115 vehicles being stopped for a variety of driving offences.
During the operation on Saturday and Sunday, police were patrolling a variety of routes including the A944 Aberdeen to Alford and B9119 Westhill to Tarland roads.
Chief Superintendent Campbell Thomson, the police area commander for Aberdeenshire and Moray, said: “Statistics such as these are extremely disappointing and show the absolute requirement for us to run initiatives such as Operation Cedar.
“We urge all motorists to think about their actions while on the road, as driving at such speeds can have devastating consequences.”
A total of 32 motorists reported to the procurator fiscal for offences such as driving while on the phone, lack of insurance and careless driving, and six men were charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Ch Supt Thomson vowed officers would continue their crackdown, adding: “The safety of all road users is a constant priority for Police Scotland, particularly for those of us who live and work in the north-east.”
