The north-east’s annual festival of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics is scheduled to get underway this evening.
Techfest 2016 will host the first in a series of events, commencing with a presentation from Professor James Grieve on forensic pathology.
Prof Grieve will be joined by forensic soil scientist, Professor Lorna Dawson and Scottish Police Authority forensic biologist, Chris Gannicliffe, to examine historic local cases and discuss how modern technology has changed forensic science.
With a wide range of activities for all ages, the eclectic festival will run until September 18.
One of the aims of TechFest is to engage young people in the four main STEM subjects and encourage them to follow a career which utilises these skills.
Sarah Chew, managing director of TechFest, said: “It is very exciting to return with many new workshops and events, building on the success of last year and listening to feedback from guests.
“From the opening event with Prof Grieve, which promises to be an incredibly thought-provoking evening, through to the closing night, there really is something for everyone within this year’s programme.
“We look forward to welcoming you and we know it’s going to be even bigger and better than ever before.”
The highlights of this year’s festival include social media science, food pairing at Rye and Soda, a tour of Aberdeen’s only microbrewery with Fierce Beer and a behind-the-scenes look at the Cambus O’May Cheese Factory.
The opening event takes place at Aberdeen’s Town House at 7pm.
