Motorists have been urged to avoid using sat navs near the new Aberdeen bypass after cars were directed onto unfinished stretches of the route.
Aberdeen Roads Limited, the AWPR contractor, has called on drivers not to follow their navigation devices at Stonehaven when travelling on the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road.
Warning signs stating “Do not follow sat-nav” have been erected after motorists turned on to the construction site in error.
North-east MSP Mike Rumbles said it was just the latest problem facing the delay-hit route.
“Increased congestion on side roads is causing serious damage to our road network and now drivers have been told to turn off their sat navs,” he said.
“Clear directions should be provided for drivers, alternative routes should be suggested for those not in a hurry and priority roads must be opened as soon as possible.”
Stonehaven and Lower Deeside councillor Sarah Dickinson said there had been numerous changes to the road layout.
“I would advise drivers to take the junction at an appropriate speed to enable them to make sense of the signage and traffic guidance on the junction.
“There have been numerous changes to the flow at the junction during the period of the works and going slowly has been the best way not to get confused throughout.
A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “The sign is in place, together with the standard road signing at site accesses, to discourage road users from entering the site in error.
“We understand that some satellite navigation mapping has included the new road which has not yet opened. While this has not created any issues, road and site safety remains an absolute priority.”
Meanwhile, traffic going southbound on the route will be diverted via the new slip roads this weekend as part of the bypass works.
This will also require the Netherley Road to be closed.
The closure is to allow workers to finish work on the new A90 flyover which passes over the road.
The road will be shut from about 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.
There will be no access to the route via the new southbound slip road during these closures.
Diversions will be signposted.
The bypass is scheduled to be open in the autumn.
