A massive search was under way in Argyll yesterday for a missing man who is believed to have started cycling from Fort William to his home in Fife.

Anthony Parson, 63, left his home address in the Ross Court area of Tillicoultry at around 9.30am a week ago today.

He was reported missing after failing to return home and there has been no sight of him since.

Mr Parson travelled to Fort William by train arriving at around 4.10pm on Friday. It is believed he then set off to cycle back to Tillicoultry along the A82.

Yesterday a search involving police, Oban coastguard volunteers and mountain rescue teams concentrated on the area between Bridge of Orchy and Dalmally in Argyll.

Inspector Jo Jollie said: “Police had 20 officers and six Sarda dogs out in the search for Mr Parsons alongside 32 members from Killin, Arrochar, Oban and Police Mountain Rescue Teams and 12 coastguard personnel.

“Assistance was also given by Transport and Bear Scotland and thanks to the Green Welly Stop Tyndrum for their assistance too.

“The search will continue for the foreseeable future or until Mr Parsons is traced.

“As we are approaching the anniversary of the last sighting of Mr Parsons on Friday September 29 2017 about 11.30pm at Bridge of Orchy, we ask regular travellers on this route to think if they saw him on their journey last week.”

Concern is growing for Mr Parson. Anyone who knows his current whereabouts is asked to contact the police immediately.

Mr Parson is described as being 5ft 9ins and of stocky build. He also has short hair, a moustache and is possibly wearing glasses. He has a tattoo of an anchor on his right upper arm and a tattoo of an eagle on his left arm.

He was last seen wearing a silver and grey bike helmet with a blue long-sleeved cycling top. He was wearing a high-visibility vest with fingerless gloves, beige combat camouflage trousers and walking boots. He was carrying a silver and blue backpack and had a yellow bike with black handlebars.
