Police are investigating two incidents of a man approaching young girls in Dingwall.

The separate reports took place on Friday – the first at around 1.10pm in the area of Ross Avenue and the other at around 1.15pm near Munro Place.

Constable James Winter said: “I must stress that on neither occasion were the two girls involved hurt in any way, but they were naturally concerned at being approached by a stranger and rightly told an adult. The man didn’t speak to them, but his actions were clearly enough to make the youngsters feel uncomfortable.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time in question and has information which could assist to please get in touch, in particular if you saw a man in his late 40s, of average height who would have been wearing black clothing including work boots and a hat.

“I would also ask that if you recognise yourself to be this man, please make contact with police as soon as possible as we try to establish exactly what happened.”

He added: “Officers will be paying extra attention to the area while our inquiries continue and I would also encourage local parents to talk to their children about what to do if they are approached by a stranger, in particular reinforcing just how important it is that they don’t engage with them and that they tell an adult as soon as possible.”

“Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting incident no. 1854/18/NE.”
