People in Oban have literally been buying into plans to renovate a former school building, creating a £3million community and cultural centre.
The Rockfield Centre (TRC) is to be a place for people to meet up, enjoy exhibitions and performances, find out about the heritage of the town and learn new skills.
Oban Communities Trust has already raised almost £2million in grant funding.
And the trust has offered everyone in the community the chance to buy into the project through a community share offer.
Investment in the centre has crossed the £100,000 minimum target with 185 investors and an average investment of £540. Everyone who has bought shares will receive a share certificate in the near future.
There are now only days to go till the formal end of the communities share offer and the call is out to everyone who wants to invest in their community to do so before this first deadline is reached on July 31.
Gordon McNab, chairman of Oban Communities Trust, said: “TRC will be a community and cultural hub with space for everyone – somewhere to enjoy meeting up, take part in a wide range of activities for all ages, see exhibitions, performances, take part in the heritage of the town and beyond, build shared relationships, learn new skills and engage in co-working and community well being classes.”
He added: “We now need the business sector to boost investment and keep the amount climbing towards our optimum target.”
