Two persons were cut free from a vehicle after a three-vehicle road traffic collision occurred on the A9 earlier today.

As a result, two persons were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. The extent of their injuries is described as not serious.

The incident occurred shortly after 11.15am this morning just north of the Aviemore southbound junction. A full road closure took place on the A9 at the affected section with motorists diverted via the village of Aviemore.

The road has since reopened.

A police spokesman confirmed an initial call was received at 11.18am with two cars and an HGV said to be involved in the incident.

Four fire appliances attended the scene from Aviemore, Kingussie, Grantown and Carrbridge. A further heavy rescue unit from Inverness was mobilised, however, was not required and was turned back.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service freed two persons using hydraulic cutting equipment. Two casualties were then transferred to hospital via road ambulance.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call today at 11.25am to attend a road traffic collision on the A9 at Aviemore.

“We dispatched two ambulances to the scene. Two patients have been taken to hospital.”
