A charity single is to be recorded to help raise money to send Beauly mum Roz Paterson to the USA for cancer treatment.

The single is the latest in a line of fundraising avenues being explored by her friends, family and neighbours to help reach a £500,000 target.

In a bid to bring the single to life, Dave Sidley, owner of The Music Shed in Inverness launched an online appeal to find talented musicians willing to take part.

He said: “I got a call from some of Roz’s friends and they asked us if they could use the studio to record a single so I said yes, no problem, use it free of charge.

“Later on Roz’s husband Malcolm, rang me and said I am going away with Roz for a couple of days with the kids, I’ll write the song and get all the lyrics together and then I’ll come into the studio and record it properly.

“It was very happy to help. I have looked at it on Facebook now and seen there has been a massive response to it already and have raised a fair amount of money although here is still a long way to go.

“The situation is that time is of the essence with this sort of thing so we are hopeful that once we get started we will get something done within two or three days.”

Around £150,000 has so far been raised in support of the campaign, which launched just nine days ago, including an anonymous £50,000 donation.

Judith Margaret Whitelaw, a close friend of the 52 year-old mother of two said the out pour of support has given her a new found sense of hope.

She said: “A lot of people are coming to make cash donations to her, older members of the community who don’t have access to the link. It’s so amazing. It’s giving her so much hope. She feels such support by the community.”
