A yellow weather warning has been issued for the Western Isles and west coast of the Highlands.
The ‘be aware’ alert from the Met Office forecasts heavy rain starting on Monday evening and is likely to persist through Tuesday and the first part of Wednesday.
“Through the whole period 50-75 mm of rain is likely quite widely, with 100-125 mm possible in places, mainly on higher ground. Very strong southerly winds will be an additional hazard,” it warns.
Residents are warned the conditions may cause flooding and cause issues with power supplies.
