A north man is cycling 164 miles with his friends next month to raise money for a cancer support centre close to his heart.
Michael Matheson, from Duirinish near Kyle of Lochalsh, will take on the challenge on August 15 in aid of Maggie’s Highlands who has supported his wife Margaret Ann who lives with lymphoma.
Mr Matheson will cycle with friends Alan Hendry, Kenneth Macrae and Douglas Cameron from Duirinish to Inverness.
The journey home will be via Loch Ness and their finish line is The Croft Cafe, which is sponsoring their efforts.
They will be assisted on the route by support driver Iain Dobson.
Maggie’s offers a wide range of services from counselling to support groups.
Mr Matheson said the fundraiser is a great opportunity to support the charity as it deals with the financial implications caused by the pandemic.
He said: “This fundraiser is really important as Maggie’s rely on fundraising to help with everything they do.
“Margaret Ann got diagnosed with lymphoma when she was 21.
“Maggie’s have helped especially mentally as my wife has to deal with the condition everyday.
“It is a incurable condition and she treats herself four times a week to keep it at bay.
“Maggie’s have been fantastic and I can’t speak highly enough of them with their help provided to our family.
“I feel honoured to do this fundraiser for the centre.”
“My wife still has a counsellor that she speaks to every month which helps a lot mentally and they are doing incredible work.”
Mr Matheson hailed the “fantastic” support that has help him smash the original fundraising target of £1500 with ease.
He added: The support so far has been really brilliant.
“I’m looking forward to taking on this challenge.”
