Moray Firth offshore wind farm team take plans to public

The developers behind a massive offshore wind farm in the north-east are preparing to take its final plans to the public.

Up to 90 turbines could be built in the Moray Firth by EDP Renewables as part of its Moray West project.

Controversial proposals from the firm were initially tabled that prompted fears that cables reaching the shore at Sandend would have affected the beach there.

The plans were later dropped by the firm following pressure from local residents.

Now Moray Offshore Wind Farm is preparing to show its submitted proposals to the public.

Development manager Jamie Grant said: “Moray West engaged the community and a range of stakeholders before submitting our proposals.

“This resulted in a number of significant changes to the plans, including excluding Sandend Beach and areas to the west of the beach, from our onshore application.

“We hope that these events will provide the opportunity for local residents to view the submitted plans for both the onshore and offshore assets and have any questions answered.”

The exhibitions will take place from 4pm to 8pm Tuesday at Sandend Village Hall and the following day from noon to 4pm at the Jubilee Hall in Deskford and from 4pm to 8pm at the Royal Hotel in Keith.
