A Moray man killed in a crash near Nairn last week has been described as a “special person who will never be forgotten”.

Family and friends have shared their heartbreak and paid tribute to avid footballer Callum Ewen, who was “one of the soundest people you could ever meet”.

The 23-year-old, from Fochabers, died on Friday following a three-vehicle crash on the B9101 between Cawdor and Auldearn.

Mr Ewen was a beloved member of The Vikings Football Club – a pub league team based in Elgin – and was known to many for his “dazzling” skills and deep passion for the sport.

Dozens of friends and teammates have now shared precious memories from throughout the years “with sore hearts”, praising Mr Ewen as a “kind and genuine” man.

On social media, Jake Logan said: “Where do I begin, my red duo – we’ve got so many memories starting from me battering you as kids, all the way through high school.

“All the football games we played together, nights out in the grant and our trip to Maga – I will cherish these forever. You were my best mate and like a brother to me.

“Hope we’re doing you proud skit. I know you’re looking down on us telling me how much better you are at football and COD. I love you.”

Taylor Duncan also praised Mr Ewen’s “footwork” and said: “Thanks for some absolutely class memories pal. You were an absolute gent. Get a game of 11s again somewhere I’m sure! You’ll still be scoring worldies and dazzling everyone with your footwork. See you again lad, rest easy.”

Robert Taylor posted: “One of the soundest people you could ever meet. Callum, you sure were one of the good guys. A lot of young sore hearts in Fochabers.”

In a heartbreaking post, others reminisced about all the “laughs and memories” they shared with Mr Ewen.

Craig Galbraith said on Facebook: “Absolutely heartbreaking, such a kind and genuine man. We made plenty of memories together. It was an honor to call you a friend.”

Tyler Wright wrote: “My brother of 23 years, I can’t believe you’re gone. I am so heartbroken.

“The past 23 years have been so special to me and I will never forget them. Thank you for all the memories. A massive part of me is now missing. The laughs we’ve had over the years will be forever cherished.

“You truly are one of a kind, special person who will never be forgotten. Save me a seat where ever you are big man. Rest easy, love you.”
