An investigation has been launched after a woman was sexually assaulted on a train travelling from Newcastle to Inverness at the weekend.
The 24-year-old victim was travelling on the 12pm London Kings Cross to Inverness service on Saturday when she was approached by a man twice and touched in a sexually inappropriate manner.
The woman, who was left shaken and upset by the incident, had boarded the train at Newcastle around 2.50pm and sat in coach G.
The culprit is described as being aged about 40 years, approximately 6ft in height with a shaved head.
He had tattoos on both arms and was wearing blue jeans and a black and white polo shirt with a pocket and a logo.
He was under the influence of alcohol and is believed to have been in the company of another man. It is thought he left the train at Perth.
British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Detective Constable Andrew Egan, the officer in charge of the inquiry, said: “This was an extremely unsavoury and unwarranted assault and I’m grateful that the victim has brought it to our attention. This was a busy service and I am anxious to speak with anyone who was on the train and has information which can help me identify the man responsible to contact BTP as a matter of urgency.”
BTP can be contacted on 0800 405040, or by texting 61016 with the reference B8 of 19/08/2015.
