REGIONAL BREAKDOWN: 42 new cases confirmed in north and north-east as Scotland’s total reaches 8,187

Another 10 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19.

The latest figures from the Scottish Government show the country’s death toll is now 903.

A total of 39,612 people have been tested. Of these, 31,425 were confirmed negative and 8,187 were positive.

In the Highlands, there have been 197 positive cases, up from 193 on Saturday while Grampian has another 32 cases taking the region’s total to 464.

Shetland has 51 confirmed cases, Orkney has five while Western Isles has six.

The daily figures also show there are currently 80 in hospital in the Grampian area with confirmed or suspected Covid-19 and 13 in intensive care.

There are six people in intensive care in the north and 65 in total in hospital.

Last week the lockdown was extended by at least three weeks.

It has been reported in several Sunday newspapers, including The Sunday Times, that lockdown measures could be relaxed from May 11, including the reopening of schools and some retail outlets.

But taking to Twitter on Sunday, Ms Sturgeon said the Scottish Government did not yet know when these measures could be introduced, adding that all decisions must be “solidly based and not premature”.
