Greg Stewart and Gary Mackay-Steven got the goals as Aberdeen secured an excellent 2-0 win at Siroki Brijeg to book their place in the third qualifying round of the Europa League.
Aberdeen had to be patient at Pecara Stadium with the goals coming in the final 18 minutes but the Dons were worth their 3-1 aggregate win following a strong second half performance.
The Dons made two changes to the side which was held 1-1 at Pittodrie in the first leg with Adam Rooney and Greg Tansey dropping to the bench. Greg Stewart came in for his first competitive start for the club while Jayden Stockley, who missed the first leg due to suspension, led the Dons attack.
Aberdeen came into this game needing to score and the home side set their stall out to limit the Dons chances as best as they could.
Chances were at a premium for Derek McInnes’ side in the first half as a result with home goalkeeper Luka Bilobrk making it to the break without having a save to make.
Two long range efforts from Kenny McLean, which were both deflected, was the best Aberdeen could muster.
Siroki Brijeg’s chances were as few and far between too with a Ivan Krstanovic shot from Luka Menalo’s corner the only one of note for the home side, but his early effort went wide.
Aberdeen stepped it up a gear in the second half and chances finally came their way. Ryan Christie saw a shot parried before Stewart fired the rebound wide.
Christie and Andy Considine then saw their respective headers go wide as the Dons pushed for an opener.
Siroki Brijeg responded with a fine Krstanovic strike which Joe Lewis did well to tip over his crossbar and within minutes of the save the Dons got the goal they craved when Stewart ran on to Christie’s pass to slot the ball into the net.
Six minutes later the Dons got the second to end the Blues’ hopes of another scalp when Christie’s pass sent Mackay-Steven clear and he fired high into the net to spark celebrations among the Dons support.
