Dons slump to defeat at home to Hamilton

Hamilton's Scott Martin (R) challenges Aberdeen's Lewis Ferguson for the ball

Aberdeen’s home woes continued as struggling Hamilton Accies beat the Dons at Pittodrie to leave Derek McInnes’s side still waiting for a first league win at home in 2019.

Goals from George Oakley and Mickel Miller gave Accies all three points and made it five home league wins in a row without victory for Aberdeen.

McInnes made two changes to the side which won 2-0 at St Johnstone on Saturday with Gary Mackay-Steven missing out due to injury while Michael Devlin dropped to the bench.

Scott McKenna returned following his three-game ban while Niall McGinn was also restored to the starting line-up.

Aberdeen had beaten Accies in the two previous meetings of the side this season but the visitors opted for an attacking approach at Pittodrie and their enterprising play was rewarded as they earned a half-time lead.

Mickel Miller tested Joe Lewis early but the Dons failed to heed the warning and the visitors deservedly opened the scoring through George Oakley as the former Caley Thistle forward beat Lewis with a superb looping shot from near the byeline.

The Dons struggled to build any momentum in a disappointing opening 45 minutes but Greg Stewart did hit the post with a header before Gary Woods saved a Sam Cosgrove header.

Dom Ball struck the crossbar in the 58th minute as Aberdeen pushed for an equaliser but it was Accies who got the second goal as Lenny Sowah broke away to cross for Mickel Miller who beat Lewis from close range.
