What Celtic’s Jamie Lindsay could do for Ross County

New Ross County signing Jamie Lindsay and manager Jim McIntyre

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre hopes Jamie Lindsay can make a similar impact to previous Celtic loan players after his move to Dingwall.

The young Celtic midfielder yesterday sealed a season-long loan deal with the Dingwall club after last season’s standout performances in the Championship.

Lindsay, 21, who shone for Morton on loan last term, caught County manager Jim McIntyre’s eye with big performances in the league and cup against Aberdeen, Rangers and Hibs.

He has joined County at their La Manga training base and is likely to take his first bow for the Highlanders in tonight’s friendly against Real Murcia.

McIntyre revealed the deal was concluded after a lengthy chat with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.

Previously with Dumbarton, both managers believe Lindsay is ready for the next level as he strives to win a place in Rodgers’ first team plans.

McIntyre said: “Jamie was on loan at Morton last season and did exceptionally well. He’s very tidy on the ball, keeps it very well and has good tenacity about him in winning the ball back. We’re delighted to have him.

“We’ve been successful taking players from Celtic in the past. If Jamie can experience that same kind of success and progress then it’s a win-win for both clubs.

“It’s a year-long loan, so we’re hoping he can be the next one. You look at Marcus Fraser, who we took from Celtic, and he has now played almost 100 games for us. Jackson Irvine was another who was outstanding for us and we sold him on.

“It has been a successful avenue and we’ve a good relationship with Celtic. They also have good trust in us and feel Ross County can help develop their players.

“Jamie was excellent for Morton in the cup semi-final against Aberdeen and did really well against Hibs and Rangers at Ibrox. He has shown himself up very well in those big games.”

McIntyre confirmed a County bid for Caley Thistle midfield stalwart Ross Draper has been rejected by the Highlanders.

McIntyre is keen to bring the 28-year-old across the Kessock Bridge but after offering Inverness £50,000 for him, it seems the clubs are miles apart on valuation.

McIntyre said: “We made an inquiry about Ross. He is a player we would be interested in bringing to the club but the offer was turned down.

“The valuation between the clubs is far too far apart. Will we go back in for him? We’ll need to wait and see.”
