A Scottish make-up college is expanding into Aberdeen and creating 12 jobs as part of a £350,000 investment in the city.

GlamCandy is investing in Holburn Street premises, whose doors will open in February to train up to 200 students annually.

The award-winning firm is currently recruiting for 12 make-up artists and tutors to work at the new venture, which will offer recognised qualifications accredited by the SQA & City and Guilds.

The company said every student who graduated through their Dunfermline college last year had been successful in finding employment.

As well as the college GlamCandy will be opening a cosmetics shop at the premises offering brands including Illamasqua, Kryolan and Karla Powell.

The move comes as it embarks on a UK-wide investment programme after partnering with Julian Kynaston – the man behind makeup brand Illamasqua.

Mr Kynaston is a serial entrepreneur who sold the Illamasqua beauty brand for £23 million last year.

He said the expansion would allow their students to start careers that could take them to the very top of the industry.

He said: “There’s a misperception that make-up is easy and everyone can do it. The truth is it is an incredible skill and once practised professionally and correctly it is a very, very powerful tool and can be an amazing career that can take you as far as you want to go.”

Managing director Hayley Harvey-Smith said: “It is a really exciting time for GlamCandy and we’re proud to be expanding our presence in Aberdeen and look forward to training the next generation of make-up artists in the area.”
