A group of children whose lives have been affected by cancer have been taken on a mini-adventure to Orkney.
On Sunday morning the youngsters, accompanied by family, were flown from Aberdeen to Kirkwall for a Teddy Bears’ Picnic organised by Clan Cancer Support.
The official mascots of the RNLI and Clan Cancer Support – Stormy Sam and Clancy – were on hand to make sure everyone was in good spirits.
That was followed by a treasure hunt around Kirkwall’s before a tour of the RNLI’s Orkney service station to round off the day before a flight back to Aberdeen.
The day event is the result of the partnership formed last year between Loganair and Aberdeen-based Clan.
Clan operates support and well-being centres across north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland for anyone affected by cancer.
As Loganair’s charity partner for 2018, Clan will be get flights for staff visiting the isles and all inflight donations as well as cash from fund raising activities by airline staff.
Fundraising Coordinator at CLAN Ruth McIntosh said: “To be able to offer such a special adventure to some of our clients who are affected by a cancer diagnosis – whether first hand or through a family member or friend – is truly special.
“During the year, CLAN supports around 300 children, teens and their families or carers who are affected by a cancer diagnosis and to be able to share memorable experiences like today with some of our clients is so important.”
She added that “we cannot thank Loganair enough for making this possible” and “to see the delight on everyone’s faces, adults included, was very special.”
Loganair commercial director Kay Ryan said: “Everyone was really excited to play their part in such a fun-filled day, transporting an aircraft full of little VIPs.”
