The unique look of this home is just one of the things it has going for it….

Earlier this year, I moved to St Katherines, a wee hamlet of houses around 20-odd miles north of Aberdeen.

It’s a gorgeous rural area but one that is within easy commuting distance of the Granite City.

The same can be said for its neighbouring village, Oldmeldrum, which I have recently begun to explore and can tell you is a very special place.

For one thing, it has a conservation order protecting the historical elements of the village, but it also has a few restaurants, hotels and cafes and a few shops that keep you stocked on everyday essentials.

There is also nursery, primary and secondary education, a doctor’s surgery, dentist and a library. And for those looking to keep fit, there are a range of sporting facilities including tennis courts, bowling green and two 18-hole golf courses.

The people who live and work there are so friendly and helpful and there is a lovely community feel about the place.

But my favourite thing about it is its quirky layout and fantastic historical homes, some of which are listed and are great examples of some of the stunning architecture we have in Aberdeenshire.

And it just so happens that one of these beautiful listed homes has just come on the market.

Number 3 South Road in Oldmeldrum is a spacious three-bedroom detached house which is grade B listed. It is a home that definitely catches your eye from the outside and continues to impress once you are inside.

The house has been lovingly maintained by the current owners and all the rooms are beautifully decorated with lots of interesting features.

One room worth mentioning is the open-plan dining kitchen and lounge which has a fantastic living flame gas fire and windows allowing natural light to flood the room.

The kitchen itself has been fitted with a range of modern base and wall units along with appliances. Also sure to impress is the cosy family room with wood-burning stove and the three generously proportioned double bedrooms, two of which feature built-in storage.

There is also a modern family bathroom which has been fitted with a three-piece suite incorporating a shower over the bath.

The house is on the market for a great price of offers over £190,000 which should be music to the ears of first-time buyers or those looking to get more for their money.

For the size of the house – plus the uniqueness of it – it is an absolute bargain.

Outside, there is ample public parking space at the back of the house and there is also a good-sized laid to lawn garden to the front and an outhouse.
