It was once a top nightclub in Aberdeen… Now Tiger Tiger could become a bowling alley

Tiger Tiger has lain empty for a number of years.
Tiger Tiger has lain empty for a number of years.

An Aberdeen nightclub which has lain abandoned for years could be transformed into a trendy new bowling alley, restaurant and bar.

A proposal has been put to Aberdeen City Council outlining plans to transform the ground floor of former Tiger Tiger premises on Shiprow, next to Vue Cinema, into a new “boutique bowling facility”.

The plans have been put forward by the Newcastle-based Lane7, which has enjoyed success thanks to its blend of modern style and retro design.

Jonathan Smith, treasurer and planning officer of the Castlehill and Pittodrie Community Council said the new enterprise would be a welcome addition to the area, and an alcohol-free alternative to the numerous pubs and clubs in the city centre.

Mr Smith said: “One of the main concerns that’s come up multiple times in our community council meetings is the lack of things to do in the city.

“I think we’ve seen quite a change in trends for how people spend their free time, and over the years the assumption has been that there’s only a demand for pubs and nightclubs, but in reality there is a real need for different kinds of activities – and I think this place could fill that role.

“Having somewhere that’s open later that doesn’t have drinking booze as the core focus would be really great for the area, and I would really welcome this development if it does get approved.”

Charlie Snow, operations manager for the company, said she could not reveal the full extent of the firm’s plans at this stage.
