Police have launched an investigation after a woman was allegedly knocked down in a hit and run incident on a north-east road.

The 24-year-old woman was knocked from her bicycle on the A93 Aberdeen to Banchory road, near Drumoak at around 1.35pm on Tuesday.

Following the incident, the woman was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she is currently being treated for her injuries.

The injuries are not believed to be serious.

The 24-year-old female cyclist was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she is being treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Sergeant Rod Smith of Police Scotland said: “This would have been an extremely distressing experience for the cyclist involved and significant enquiries are underway to trace the owner of the other vehicle.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who thinks they might have information that could assist to come forward as soon as possible.

“Considering the injuries the female sustained it is highly likely that the other vehicle involved would have been damaged. If you recognise yourself as being the owner of this vehicle, or have suspicions about the whereabouts of this vehicle, I would urge you to get in touch so that we can establish exactly what happened.

“Extensive CCTV work is being carried out in the vicinity of the incident and the wider area as part of our investigation and the matter is being taken very seriously.

“I also understand that numerous motorists remained at the scene to assist the casualty and I would like to express my gratitude to those people. ”

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they wish to remain anonymous.
