Aberdeen’s Lord Provost has met the Polish ambassador to Britain to try and reassure the city’s large Polish population about any concerns they might have as Britain leaves the EU.
Barney Crockett hosted His Excellency, Prof Arkady Rzegocki at a special meeting at the city’s townhouse yesterday.
Poles make up the largest EU population in the city and Mr Crockett said he was happy to speak to the ambassador about any concerns.
He said: “To have the ambassador visit Aberdeen on the day the UK leaves the EU shows the importance Poland holds Aberdeen in.
“We had a great discussion about working together into the future.
“One of the key points I was keen to press was to reassure him and the Polish community that we are here to help and provide information on applications.
“The Polish community plays a crucial role both culturally and economically in the city and given the growth in the country itself, I think we can expect our links to only grow and grow in the coming years.”
