MSP STEWART STEVENSON RECEIVES A PETITION FROM CLLR IAN TAIT WITH OVER 4000 SIGNATURES ASKING FOR THE A90 TO BE DUALLED ALL THE WAY TO FRASERBURGH.LOOKING ON ARE (L TO R) COMMUNITY COUNCILLORS GEORGE ESSLEMONT, WILSON WHYTE AND PAULINE MASON.

A petition calling for the dualling of the A90 all the way north to Fraserburgh has attracted thousands of signatures.

Transport body Nestrans has discussed a number of ideas for improve links to the port, including the reinstatement of the former Formartine and Buchan railway.

Now local councillor Ian Tait and members of Fraserburgh Community Council have gathered 3,761 signatures supporting dualling as the preferred option.

Yesterday, Councillor Tait presented the petition to former transport minister and Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Stewart Stevenson, who will take it to the Scottish Government.

Mr Tait said: “The fact that nearly 4,000 showed this huge support to dual the A90 right up to Fraserburgh cannot be ignored by the powers that be who are considering the dualling out of Aberdeen to the north.

“Huge sums of money are involved and we know that dualling cannot take place in one phase from Aberdeen.

“But this successful petition is a loud voice from the people in our area that we will not allow those powers to forget us.

“We expect them to make the commitment that the A90 will be dualled right up to Fraserburgh while recognising hat this will need to be done in phases.

“We must never allow the Scottish Government to leave the Fraserburgh area out in the cold again.”

Mr Stevenson said: “This effort by Fraserburgh Community council and Councillor Tait is to be commended.

“The petition alerts the Scottish Government to the importance of the recommendations which Nestrans is currently developing for future transport options for the area, including road and rail.

“I look forward to engaging with ministers in addressing the issues raised.”
