North-east artists have united in praise for an innovative new scheme at this year’s Aberdeen Christmas Village.
The Inspired at the Village project, curated by artist Mary Butterworth, features the eclectic work of around 30 local painters, sculptors and designers, with their creations on show and for sale at the city attraction.
The initiative came in response to concerns the Christmas Village wasn’t doing enough to support the local economy.
Artists taking part have been granted the opportunity to do so without paying a fee for a stall at the market.
Kirstyn Fordyce of Aberdeen-based Kilo Alpha Editions said: “It’s important for artists, but it’s also important for creative people as a whole in Aberdeen.
“The more of these things that happen in Aberdeen, the better.
“It really brings a lot of extra things to the market, it’s good when people know you are Aberdeen-based and you’ve made everything locally.”
The Christmas Village is organised by north-east business group Aberdeen Inspired.
And the organisation’s chief executive, Adrian Watson, added: “We are delighted to be showcasing the work of up to 30 hugely talented artists and designers from the city centre and wider north-east at the village.
“Commissioning this was hugely important to us, as it gives an opportunity for our local craft makers to sell their excellent products to crowds within the Christmas Village.
“We’ve had great feedback from stallholders so far, with many exceeding their sales targets.
“The craft stalls are the perfect place to pick up some special presents this Christmas and support our local businesses at the same time.”
