Young people have been offered the chance to become ambassadors for Aberdeen Music Hall following the completion of its £8.7million renovation this year.
The culmination of the monumental overhaul of the landmark building coincides with a national movement to celebrate the achievements of Scotland’s young people.
Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA), the charity behind the project, is eager to mark that connection by offering local teenagers the “once in a lifetime” chance to have their say on the 19th century venue.
Organisers want a group of people from across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, aged between 13 and 18, to act as young ambassadors.
In that role they will take part in a series of workshops aimed at understanding more about what teenagers’ hopes for the hall are.
Some of the perks will include access to exclusive behind-the-scenes events and invitations to shows.
The ambassadors will also be encouraged to share their thoughts on Aberdeen Music Hall via social media, blogs and video diaries.
APA’s youth engagement co-ordinator, Sam Stephen, said: “This unique project will allow youngsters to explore their creativity, have their voice heard and be part of a really exciting and historic movement in the north-east.”
The group’s creative learning manager, Lisa Mathieson, added: “This is a really exciting time for arts and culture in the city, and we feel it is important that we continue to engage with young people to make sure that they feel part of the future of the Music Hall.”
The transformation of the A-listed concert hall includes a “re-imagining” of its interior, along with the creation of a new foyer and box office.
The refurbished building will also feature a creative learning studio, additional performance space, new café bars and meeting spaces.
Fundraisers have thus far amassed 78% of the total required to pull off the project, and the venue is expected to open this winter.
There will be a drop-in session in the cafe at His Majesty’s Theatre tomorrow, between 10am and 1pm, where teenagers can find out more about the ambassador programme and how to apply to take part.
