More than £14,000 has been raised so far to ensure the future of Aberdeen’s Belmont Filmhouse.
A fundraiser was launched to support the venue just a few days ago, but it has already surpassed the halfway mark.
The Belmont asked members of the public to donate £40 – the price of a membership – to the cinema to help it get back on its feet after the crippling financial effects of lockdown.
Head of cinema operations at the Belmont, Colin Farquhar, said the support from cinema fans had been “amazing”.

He added: “It has only been a few days and the overwhelming generosity of Aberdeen and our audience has been quite staggering and incredibly touching.
“A massive thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who donated.
“We’re starting to see our way back and part of that is due to the amazing support people have shown.”
The cinema is now planning the best way to get customers safely through their doors and into the cinema’s comfy red seats as soon as possible.
