Highland Council has issued advice to owners of private water supplies and landlords of tenants on private water supplies that the provision of water to their properties is their own responsibility.
A spate of dry weather has resulted in some concerned individuals calling the council’s environmental health team.
Information issued by the local authority states they are not responsible for the provision of water in these situations where private water supplies have dried up.
The council’s environmental health team can request Scottish Water to assist in these situations but full costs must be covered by the owner or landlord.
Advice relating to grants available can be offered by the council relating to the improvement of quantity of supply or storage.
A warning to use water wisely during dry weather periods has also been issued.
Water users are asked to shower instead of taking a bath, ensuring loads in washing machines and dishwashers are full, opting for a watering can rather than a garden hose and to use buckets of water for washing the car instead of a hose.
