Stornoway Coastguard received calls from two vessels in distress in less than 15 minutes this afternoon – one rescue is still underway.
The first call came in at 12.20pm when the single crew member on a Sigmund 2 yacht reported that it was having engine problems in the Sound of Mull.
A coastguard spokesman said another yacht stood by until Tobermory Lifeboat arrived and towed it back to Tobermory.
And, at 12.33pm, an angling vessel, called Shamrock, was reported to have broken down about five miles north of Tolsta Head on Lewis.
The spokesman said there were three people on board the boat, which had suffered a machinery failure and lost engine power.
He said: “Stornoway Lifeboat is en route and Stornoway Coastguard Rescue Team are in attendance to see if they can give the lifeboat a more accurate position.”
